Bitcoin Mining

This category gives insights into Bitcoin mining by summarising popular miners such as the Antminer S9, and explaining concepts such as how difficulty works, how to setup an Antminer, how Antminer power supplies & power consumption work, and what the best Bitcoin mining hardware is.

On the 8th November 2018, Bitmain released their next generation Bitcoin ASIC miners, the Antminer S15 and T15.

The Antminer S15, with 28TH/s at 1,596W or 17TH/s at 850W and a cost of $1,475, looks to be their main offering here. The T15 is a more toned down cheaper version (with 23TH/s at 1,541W or 20TH/s at 1,200W and a cost of $913). Below we analyse the Antminer S15's specs and compar...

The Antminer DR3 is a Decred ASIC miner released by Bitmain in September 2018 (which uses the Blake(14r) hybrid proof-of-work/proof-of-stake algorithm). At the time of its release it looked to be much better than other Decred ASICs, but other upcoming competitors like the Whatsminer D1 mean you should be careful buying it.

On the 23rd August 2018 Bitmain announced a new water-cooled Bitcoin ASIC miner called the Antminer S9 Hydro. With 18TH/s of mining power at a power consumption of 1728W, it's actually less efficient than the Antminer S9j announced earlier in August, leading many to question what the purpose of this miner is.

Below we go through the specs of the Antminer S9 Hydro and compare it against co...

Below we analyse this miner and the company behi...

This caused a lot of confusion as they seem to be very similar to the 'Antminer S9', a miner they released back in February 2017. In this guide we go through the differences between Bitmain's Antminer S9, S9i and S9j.

On July 10th 2018, Bitmain released the Antminer Z9, an ASIC miner for mining Equihash-based cryptocurrencies such as Zcash. There's been a lot of controversy around this and the smaller version of this miner called the Z9 Mini.

Below we explain what this miner is, how it compares to similar ASICs, and if it's profitable/worth buying.

How to buy Antminer Z9?

In 2018 many new ASIC miners are being released in the cryptocurrency space, each designed to mine a specific algorithm/coin and with varying profitability over time. With all these new miners it can be difficult to work out which is the most profitable, and which you should buy.

Below we go through how to find the most profitable ASIC miner, and how exactly you work out its profitability...

On the 5th June 2018, GMO launched a new Bitcoin ASIC miner called the Miner B2, which looks to be more efficient than the popular Antminer S9i. More recently they also released the B3 on 2nd July 2018.

This guide will explain what the GMO Miner B2 & B3 are, and how they compare against other Bitcoin ASICs.
