Best 10th Anniversary Celebrations for Bitcoin

10 years ago today, back on the 31st October 2018, Bitcoin's whitepaper was first shared by its creator Satoshi Nakamoto (where it was sent via a cryptography mailing list). So today is a big occasion for many in the Bitcoin space.

Below we go through some of the ways people are celebrating this.

Online events

Reading the whitepaper

Although lots of people are interested in Bitcoin, quite a few haven't read the Bitcoin whitepaper, so several communities are encouraging their followers to read it today. It's available in several languages, and gives lots of insights into how Bitcoin works, so well worth a read!

Bitcoin predictions

Some communities look to be celebrating the 10 year anniversary by sharing their predictions for Bitcoin's future. CoinCorner for example have shared their team's opinions on their blog. Some of these are what you'd expect, price predictions for example (with someone thinking it'll reach $100k per Bitcoin at some point), but others aren't what you'd expect:

  • One person thinks Bitcoin will become a part of the education system.
  • One person thinks Bitcoin's creator will remain anonymous forever.
  • One person thinks Bitcoin will be used to manipulate and control human behaviour, for example by rewarding people in Bitcoin for exercising (to save the NHS money in this example).

Real-life events

Bitcoin Art Exhibition

If you live near Paris, Bitcoin Art (r) evolution have a Bitcoin-themed art exhibition running from the 28th September to the 5th October 2018.

See their website for more information, and be sure to stay safe if you visit this in person (it's been shared on TheNextWeb so looks to be legitimate, just stay alert and perhaps go with a group/during the day).

eToro Free Bitcoin ATM

Earlier today, on the 31st October 2018, the crypto trading platform eToro set up a crypto ATM in London (at Finsbury Avenue Square), where after singing it happy birthday passers by were able to get some free Bitcoin! This was dispensed through vouchers worth between £20-£250 (we'd guess these had to be used on eToro, so this was some good marketing on their part).

Halloween/Bitcoin celebrations

Some people have organised events combining halloween and Bitcoin, where in London for example an event called 'Cryptoween' was organised for today (the 31st October 2018). It may be a bit late to visit one of these events yourself, but the 3rd January is upcoming when Bitcoin's Genesis Block was created, so expect to see more celebrations around this date!

Items for sale

The watch manufacturer, Hublot, has launched a limited edition watch to celebrate Bitcoin's 10th anniversary (with 210 of these being created to mark the limit of 21 million Bitcoin). These watches are paid for in Bitcoin, and look to cost $25k each!
